Hilderstone College is located in the centre of the lovely seaside town of Broadstairs in south-east England.
It is 110 km from London (80 minutes by high-speed train), 30 minutes from the historic city of Canterbury and within easy access of the Channel Tunnel and port of Dover.
There are many restaurants, pubs and coffee bars where you can meet friends. Close by there are also shopping centres, cinemas, theatres, music venues, bowling alleys, sports centres, markets and an amusement park. The old part of Broadstairs still retains the beauty of a picturesque fishing village. During the 19th century Broadstairs became popular with members of the royal family and famous artists and writers. Charles Dickens wrote much of his work here and called it his "beloved Broadstairs". The town remains very popular with visitors today.
Broadstairs is situated on the coast between Margate and Ramsgate. The area is known as Thanet and was originally an island, separated from the mainland by the Wantsum Channel.
Margate is the largest of the three towns and is a traditional holiday seaside resort with beautiful sandy beaches, a vibrant 'old town' with a cafe culture, retro shops and the wonderful Turner Contemporary art gallery. Dreamland amusement park is also an exciting place to visit.
Ramsgate has a maritime history dating back hundreds of years. It boasts a royal harbour full of boats and yachts and surrounded by cafes and restaurants. You can enjoy boat trips to go fishing or see the seals, explore the old smugglers' caves or take a pleasant cliff-top walk. On a clear day you can see France across the Channel.
Westwood Cross shopping centre is located just outside Broadstairs and there is a regular bus service from the town centre. With over fifty shops and restaurants, it is open seven days a week. There is a multi-screen cinema, a health club and a casino too. There are special events and market stalls to enjoy.
